Our Story

DAVET was founded by Adeline Mukayirere, a woman with a passion for providing consistent, reliable and better paid employment opportunities to rural women and youth. Since our inception in 2015, we have quickly developed from an agri-vet store that supplies inputs to farmers in Bugesera into a multi-faceted agri business that amongst other activities, operates its own farm, provides technical assistance to smallholder farmers and cooperatives, and connects them to export markets. We now work with four cooperatives, spanning over 43ha of land and constituting over 418 members and counting!

What We Do

DAVET is a private company, focusing  on climate-resilient horticulture, mushroom production, and sustainable livestock farming to strengthen food security, livelihoods, and export competitiveness. Our priority value chains include French beans, chili, pineapples, Rosemary, green pepper, and mushrooms.

DAVET implements these interventions in Bugesera, Kamonyi, Rutsiro Districts, Gatsibo and Gisagara combining climate-smart production, inclusive business development, and market expansion to deliver long-term impact for smallholder farmers and communities.

Aligned with DAVET Goals, our key activities include:

  • Creating decent jobs and income opportunities for women, youth, and vulnerable groups
  • Empowering cooperatives and smallholder farmers through pre-financing of quality agricultural inputs and livestock starter packages
  • Strengthening technical capacity at cooperative and individual levels (crop and livestock production, feeding, biosecurity, and post-harvest handling)
  • Improving access to markets and building supply capacity to respond to local, regional, and international demand
  • Promoting investment in productivity-enhancing technologies, responsive to climate change and market requirements
  • Providing aggregation and export facilitation services for fruits and vegetables
  • Supporting youth and women to identify quick-win agribusiness opportunities for rapid income generation and self-reliance
  • Promoting circular farming systems by linking livestock to crop production through organic manure/compost to improve soil health
